REMIDIAL ASSIGNMENT FOR XI PSIA 5

Solve the following problems briefly and correctly!

(Students are allowed to use calculator and dictionary if it is necessary)

1.        The following data have been arranged from the smallest to the greatest.

(x+2),(2x+2),(3x+3),5x,(4x+6),(6x+5)

If the range of the data is 18, then find the difference between mean and median!

2.       The following table gives the ages  in completed  years  of  the 141 persons in a town involved in road accidents during a particular year.

Age (year)	12 - 15	16 - 20	21 - 25	26 - 30	31 - 40	41 - 50	51 – 70
Frequency	15	48	28	17	14	7	12

Working in years, and giving your answers to 1 decimal place, calculate estimates of

a)      The mean and standard deviation of the ages,

b)      The median age

c)      Lower and Upper quartile

d)      How many people of 35 years old and more that got accident in the year?

e)      Which do you consider to be the better representative average of the distribution, the mean or median? Give a reason for your answer.
